Here's what's becoming more known about "I Have a Dream."

It wasn't supposed to happen.

MLK stood in front of 250,000 people with a speech prepared. Vetted. Ready to go.

Then he paused.

Someone called out, many say it was Mahalia Jackson: "Tell them about the dream, Martin."

He'd talked about the dream before, but it wasn't in the script for that day. In that pause, he had a choice: stick to what was prepared, or follow what was present.
He chose the whisper over the outline.

And the world got one of the most transformative speeches of all time.

Most of us are moving so fast we'd miss that whisper entirely.
We've called it discipline. Momentum. Staying the course.
But what if we're just too scared to stop long enough to listen?

We associate impact with certainty and confidence. With having the plan and sticking to it no matter what.
But sometimes the most transformative moments are born in the pause. In the obedience to follow guidance even when the world is watching.

Sometimes the pause isn't a disruption.
It's the doorway.

So here's my question:
What's trying to guide you in the moment that you keep planning around?
What dream is waiting for you to stop following the outline long enough to hear it?

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽. 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻. 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺.

2025 didn’t ask for permission. Neither did I.

The Wins:
Q4 came alive. The business shifted—better work, clearer vision, purpose over performance.

@renitajoycesmith and I made it official. A partnership in purpose. The kind that builds legacy.

I graced stages I didn’t expect. Said things out loud I’d been holding back. Y’all leaned in.
Spelman called and purpose met legacy.

The Plot Twist:
The year started slow. Grief rearranged everything. I stepped back.

That space gave me clarity. And while I was finding it, my dreams were waiting for me.
Turns out, they still are.

2026:
Partnerships over solo grinding. Intention over hustle. Work that builds legacy.

I’m coming in grounded, energized, and crystal clear about what we’re building next.

My dreams are waiting for me. And this time, I’m ready.

She wasn't the only one brave enough to say no. Claudette Colvin did it nine months earlier. But the movement was intentional about positioning. And Rosa was willing to be positioned.

Your presence is a message.

There’s so much to say about the journey of sisterhood. And, today, I’ll say that there’s something really beautiful about witnessing your big sister in her ‘phoenix era.’ Today marks a milestone that I know will bring even more beauty, fire, and fortitude than she’s ever imagined.

Happy 45th birthday, sis. May this trip around the sun bring you closer to its light than ever before.

Last Friday, I had the joy of hosting the first Meet the Author event for @shaniek as she launched her debut book, Mommy in Waiting.

One of the hidden joys of my career is helping bring people’s stories to life through conversation. Interviewing is part art, part listening, part faith; and when someone is as open and authentic as Shana-Lee, it becomes a beautiful unfolding.

This book is her love story to God, born out of longing, faith, and radical trust in the waiting. And while her journey is uniquely hers, it invited all of us to reflect on our own seasons of waiting. (And yes, I too am waiting… though mine has a more to do with someone finally taking away the chore of trash duty from me - IYKYK 😂).

I’m thankful Shana-Lee trusted me to hold this space with her. We laughed, we prayed, and we remembered that none of us wait alone.

Every year around this time, I get real quiet. Not because I’m sad — but because I’m sitting in deep gratitude.

For this life I’m building.
For the work I get to do.
For the people who have poured into me, pushed me, prayed for me, and partnered with me on this wild journey.

Entrepreneurship will stretch you.
Leadership will humble you.
Growth will show you exactly who you are and who you’re becoming.

And listen — I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Two years into running TraComm full time and I’m still amazed that this is my life. That God trusted me with this assignment. That people trust me with their rooms, their teams, their stories.

So tonight I’m reflecting. I’m giving thanks. And I’m holding space for what’s next.

This work isn’t just about communication.
It’s about connection.
It’s about culture.
It’s about building something that lasts — with people who lead with heart.

Let’s go ahead and tell the truth — boundaries aren’t just about protecting your peace.

𝘽𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙.

People watch how you move.
They notice how you manage your energy.
They pay attention to what you tolerate — and what you don’t.

And if you don’t have boundaries?
Your team won’t feel like they can have them either.

As a leader, setting boundaries isn’t selfish.
It’s stewardship.

It teaches your team:
— Rest is allowed here.
— Clarity is expected here.
— Respect is non-negotiable here.

Healthy boundaries say:
“𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘴.”

And if I’m being honest?
Some of the best leadership growth I’ve experienced didn’t come from doing more.
It came from saying no on purpose.

Boundaries create culture.
Make sure you’re setting them with intention.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟳: 𝗜 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗗𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 - 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮

Here’s one more thing about my journey and what I know to be powerful about leadership— It’s not just God rocking with me. It’s the people who’ve poured into me, pulled me in, and pushed me forward.

The mentor who gave me truth without sugarcoating it, who called me up and said “𝘏𝘦𝘺, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥? 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘶𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵” when others would have let you fade away. (𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲, 𝗥𝗼𝗻)

The sponsor who said my name in rooms I hadn’t even stepped into yet, who fought for my seat at tables where people like me weren’t typically invited. (𝗜’𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, @gracelizabeth40 Paulette 𝗮𝗻𝗱 @thecatchgroup -Laura)

That kind of support? It’s sacred. And it’s necessary.

Look, if you’re leading and not lifting, what exactly are you doing?

Leadership isn’t just about your personal success—it’s about how you multiply it. It’s about developing others, opening doors, and advocating even when it costs you something. Even when it means sharing spotlight or opportunity that could’ve been all yours.

Mentorship. Sponsorship. That’s the legacy work. That’s how we change not just careers but generations. And I’m committed to it—because I didn’t get here alone, and I don’t plan to keep the ladder to myself.

We can’t hold onto position, knowledge, and connections like they’re limited resources. Like helping someone else means there’s less for you.

Who are you building up today? Whose name are you mentioning in rooms they haven’t accessed yet? Who’s getting your honest feedback, your strategic introductions?

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 - 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟲: 𝗜 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗗𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲

Let’s talk about what 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 keeps this whole thing moving:

It’s not just strategy.
It’s not just systems.
It’s not even sleep (although I love a nap).

It’s the fact that God is rocking with me.
Like, for real for real.

This business?
It’s not a coincidence.
It’s a calling.

And one of my Top 5 CliftonStrengths is 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳, which basically means:
I move with conviction.
I’m grounded in purpose.
I don’t need to see the full blueprint.

Because when I know who I’m walking with?
I know I’m good.

So every workshop I facilitate, every leader I serve, every program I design, every mic I step behind—it all flows from that divine partnership.
That inner “yes.”
That Spirit-led strategy.

Because when I say I’m building something meaningful, I mean it.
This ain’t ego.
It’s assignment.
It’s alignment.

God and I are co-creating a business that heals, equips, and transforms.

I once had a leader cry in front of us during a really hard season.

Not because she was falling apart, but because she was brave enough to show up fully—as a person, not just a position.

That moment gave me permission to be honest. To say, “𝘐’𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺.” To ask my team for grace instead of pretending I didn’t need it.

Now? I carry that lesson into every space I teach, train, and coach in:

Whew...okay...here it goes.

There are times in this business journey when I think, "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘥𝘰? 𝘋𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵?"

There are times when I'm bone-tired, questioning every decision, and wondering if anyone really cares about leadership, communication, and organizational dynamics...blah, blah, blah.

But then, something kicks in. That Delahoussaye fire—the one my grandmother and her four sisters (the original "Dela girls") passed down, the same flame that burns bright in my mother who calls me just to say "𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨; 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵." That unmistakable blend of stubbornness and faith that refuses to let Black women fold when things get hard.

The temptation is real, y'all. Corporate jobs with benefits are practically winking at me from LinkedIn. Security. Structure. Someone else's problems to solve.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲.

And right when I need it most, a client message will land. Like this one: "𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 [𝘺𝘰𝘶] 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦-𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯."

That isn't just feedback; it's fuel. This entrepreneur life isn't easy; especially when the very thing you're selling is the purpose that's been cultivated within you. Some days it's a straight-up fight. But it's necessary. And I'm so grateful I choose to stay when logic says to run.

If you're in that "should I quit?" season—that messy middle where doubt is louder than your dream—keep going. That fire in your belly isn't random; it's ancestral. It's purpose.

And trust me: Someone's breakthrough is directly tied to your decision not to tap out.

What's calling you to push through today?

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗜𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘽𝘼𝘿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Confession: I love fixing "bad" communication.

But, most of the time, bad communication isn’t the real issue.

It’s a symptom.

The root cause? That runs deeper.

• Sometimes it’s as simple as a lack of shared language or process.

• Sometimes it’s a lack of trust.

• And, unfortunately, sometimes, the culture itself makes honest communication feel unsafe.

Here’s the truth:

𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨. 𝙄𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

That means stepping back and asking:

— Is our team clear on how we communicate, or are we winging it?

— Do our leaders know what to say and when to listen?

— Do our systems support accountability, or just talk about it?

Here’s a simple process to go beyond the surface:

𝟰 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗴

1️⃣ Assess where you are (be honest)

2️⃣ Identify the gaps (culture, systems, behaviors)

3️⃣ Learn the tools that match your mission and goals

4️⃣ Build simple processes to practice them consistently

That last one? That’s where transformation happens.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭: 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲

I didn’t find my voice on a stage. I found it in the shadows of my own damn hesitation.

Many people don’t know that my parents once worried I might struggle to physically speak properly. Fast forward and there I was—voice fully functional but choosing silence in rooms where my words needed to exist.

I found my voice in all the “should’ve said something” moments:

• That meeting where I knew the answer but swallowed it
• Those conversations I replayed at 2am, scripting what I should’ve said
• Every time I waited for invisible permission to take up space

Well, here’s what I learned during the bumps and bruises along my journey:

𝙎𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪.

Your voice isn’t just for cute stories—it’s for strategy, for disruption, for showing the hell up when it matters. Now I use mine everywhere from TEDx stages to Fortune 100 keynotes.

But the real power move? Learning to speak truth without torching relationships. To challenge without crushing. To make space for uncomfortable realities when everyone else is playing nice.

𝗠𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗻—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗺𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

Y'all, can we get real for a minute?
That bone-deep weariness you're feeling? I feel it too. Some days, it feels like we're trying to move mountains with teaspoons. The news is heavy, social media is wild, and with this alternate timeline we seem to be living in at the moment, it feels like we're further from the dream than ever.

Sitting in church yesterday, @robert_d_white dropped this gem: everything worth fighting for lies beneath the surface. But, we must remain faithful to what we've been called to dig for.

Dr. King didn't wait until he felt ready. He didn't wait until the path was clear. He dug deep and did the work, even when it felt impossible.

So today, I'm challenging us to:

Keep digging; we need each other to keep going

Have the uncomfortable conversations; your voice is needed

Stand up for what's right and true and just; our humanity depends on it

Do our best to build bridges, not walls; true connection is imperative

How do you support other women-owned businesses?

I firmly believe that success doesn’t happen in isolation. A key way I back other women-owned businesses is by acting as a connector for opportunities. When potential clients reach out to me with needs that fall outside my specialty, I don’t hesitate to direct them to another woman-owned business that’s a perfect fit for their requirements. Holding onto opportunities isn’t my style; instead, I see it as my duty to uplift and support my fellow women entrepreneurs whenever possible.

From 14 years of full-time side hustling to a year full of growth, challenges, and blessings as a full-time entrepreneur. Every step has shown me the power of God’s sovereignty, resilience, and community. ✨

This Valentine's Day, I have a quick challenge for you: let's embrace the power of empathy and curiosity to deepen our connections across all aspects of our lives.

Here's how we can start:

At Home: "How can I show love to you?" Dive into understanding and fulfilling the unique needs of our loved ones, creating moments of genuine connection.

At Work: "How can I show appreciation?" Acknowledge and celebrate each individual's contributions, fostering a culture of recognition and value.

In the Community: "How can I serve you?" Commit our time and energy to support and uplift our communities, making them stronger and more inclusive.

When we communicate with empathy and curiosity, we do more than just exchange information; we build bridges. We create spaces where people feel safe to express their needs and dreams. This Valentine's Day, let's commit to asking these questions with an open heart, ready to strengthen our connections and enhance our shared outcomes. Because at the end of the day, it's through these acts of understanding and kindness that we make the world a little brighter for everyone.

Yesterday, while sipping an excellent sangria, I was asked ‘what does the highest and best version of yourself look like?’

I paused for a few moments and let the conversation continue around me. Then it hit me, and I said:

‘I need to practice more of what I preach and say what I’m thinking, feeling, and express what I want without thinking so much about the response or reaction of others.’

My highest and best version of myself includes leaning into the words, feelings, behaviors, actions, decisions, requests, and challenges that are untarnished by external expectations and societal limitations.

My dear sister-friend said, ‘hmmm…you want to live with an unfiltered heart.’

And, that my friends, is exactly it. 2023 was about taking steps of faith that led to a deeper understanding of who I am and how I’m meant to live out my purpose authentically.

Now it’s time to exercise that authenticity by living with an unfiltered heart. So, here’s to 2024:

A year of living without limitation.

A year of living #unfilitered.

Next year, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of WILS - I promise you won’t want to miss this.

Almost 15 years ago, I sat in the audience at my first @txdiversity Greater Fort Worth Women in Leadership Symposium. I was a new Assistant Director at the @tcu_neeleyschool and I was so excited to be in the room. I was also in awe of the range of topics and of the candor and vulnerability each panelist displayed.

I also remember thinking, ‘I want to be on that stage one day.’

‘One day’ is here, and I’m so grateful for this full circle moment where I’m returning to @texaschristianuniversity as the moderator for the 2023 Greater Fort Worth Women in Leadership Symposium.
